There's a ship wreck and there's only 2 life boats. 5 people survive and make it to the lifeboats. In one of the boats there's a sailor, a girl, and an old man. In the other boat, the girls fiance and his best friend. The boats get seperated and the one with the sailor,old man, and girl crash on an island. The boat is broken but everyone is okay. When surveying the surroundings the girl can see another island in the distance with a boat at the shore. In hopes her fiance is on the other island she asks the sailor if he can fix the boat and row her to the other island. He reponds, "Sure, if you sleep with me tonight." Very distraught she goes to the old man for advice. He tells her, "I can't tell you what's right or wrong, follow your heart." So that night she sleeps with the sailor. The next day he fixes the boat and rows her to the other island. Excited to see her fiance but full or guilt she explains what happened. The fiance yells, "I can't believe you, get away from me, I don't want to see you again!" She sadly walks away. The best friend comes up to her, puts his arm around her, and says, "I know you just had a fight. I'll try to mend things for you, unitl then, I'll take good care of you."

Liar liar, pants on fire!

In my management class the other day, we were discussing ethics. The professor asked if you think it's never okay to lie, raise your hand. Without even thinking my hand went up, confident that there's other good, honest people in the world. To my shock and horror the professor pointed out I was the only one with my hand raised, out of about 60 students. We started to discuss different scenarios where we would be faced with the decision to lie or not. One incident that was brought up was when Vincent Marinallo killed his wife in an Old Metairie parking lot in broad daylight. Harry Lee came out with a statement saying they think it's just a random robbery and the tape from the building was unusable b/c it was staring into the sun. All of which was untrue but they didn't want the killer to know they were onto him. Okay, I can understand this lie, but do I think it's right, I didn't at the time. We also talked about various business situations where people said they would lie or not lie. But I was really shocked how many people would lie, about stupid things, or really serious things that could get you in major trouble. The whole class I am thinking, I must be living in my own bubble. These are my classmates, my peers, my future employers, employees, colleagues, the generation that will teach and raise my childrens generation, etc. and they're all a bunch of LIARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And this disturbs me. It's one thing to lie but it's another thing to admit you are a big fat liar to a classroom full of your peers. Good to know, I won't be working with you in the future!
So I started thinking the Bible does say "thou shall not lie" right? Like I'm not crazy, right? Not that everyone is a Christian, but there had to be some in my class. So I went to the Bible to check it out and reassure myself. To my shock and horror (number 2), it does not say that. The one people refer to as don't lie I guess would be "you should not testify falsely against your neighbor" I consulted 3 versions all saying the same thing. I'm glad I looked this up and didn't just go off of what I hear at church or what I think I know. But what does this mean? Only don't lie about other people but it's okay to lie about yourself? Then I thought, whatever. Whether it's okay to lie or not, that's not the kind of person I want to be. I want to be an honest person, no matter what. Which those of you who know me well might say I don't have a problem with being honest, sometimes, I'm a little to honest, but nevertheless, I'm honest. And that makes me feel good. Maybe some people think I can't get anywhere with being honest, like some people in my class. But really shouldn't we want honest people in power? It's what people have been begging for in politicians, even clergymen. Like hello....Enron! People want honest people in power but at the same time they diss and have no hope in honest people. What is up with that? Well, that's my thoughts for now.

So, for all you old Chi Alphaians out there, remember when Audra use to do the reminder, or what's going on e-mails? And at the end she'd always put a funny quote? Well, two things this week made me think of that. First of all, I don't have a lot of pants. I only have 4 pairs of jeans. Two of which I got on freecycle and let's just say they are just a little short on me. So I am getting sick of everytime I sit down, my big, white, hanes her way socks are sticking out! This made me think about how every time I go jean shopping I can never get the right lenght. The regular jeans are too long, which means the long jeans are waaay too long, but get this..... the short jeans are too short!!!! Why must the world be this way?!

Second story
I was listening to a comedy radio station online and this comedian said something that made me not only burst out laughing but then step back and think:
No matter what temperture the room is, it's always room temperture!

A funny thing happened on the way to Chem class

Well, where do I start??? I didn't go to my 8am class Thursday b/c I am taking the test at a later time, because I was taking the TEAS test on Friday (which I feel pretty confident about =)
Soooooo, I sleep in and head out for my 9:30 appointment with Chemistry.
For those of you who know, I was taking Lake Ave to school and there's a part where you come off an overpass, take a sharp turn, and go through a little part of ritzier neighborhood before you hit the Lake again. Mind you I go this way every morning to school. But this morning it had just rained, du, du, duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! Coming off the overpass and starting the sharp turn I start to hydroplane! My car starts to spin out of control! And what do I do???? THE COMPLETELY WRONG THING! I saw that I was going to skid into a very high neutral ground so I slam on my breaks and totally cut the wheel the other way.....NEVER DO THAT! Well once my car got traction, I started to turn the complete opposite way and hydroplane again into the very high neutral ground on the other side of the road. I hit then total cleared it and managed to stop right before I feel off the other side. Long story but it all happened within a matter of 10 seconds. My first thought as I was coming to a stop is I'm so screwed because insurance won't cover this. I thought the front of my car was totally wrecked from hitting the curve. I get out to assess the damage and all I can see is that my two front hubcaps are missing. Not bad for what I thought was going to happen. One of my hubcaps was across the street to my right on the other neutral ground I almost hit , and the other across the street to my left on someone's front lawn. As I am assessing the damage a very nice construction guy pulls up on the median to see if I'm okay. He said he was at the stop sign and saw the whole thing, lucky me, I thought I was alone. He said at one point I had three wheels off the ground and he thought I was going to flip over! I have no idea why Jesus loves me so much. Anyway, he lead me to a place where the neutral ground slopes instead of stairs I guess. He said he would watch to see if it drove okay and if my tires were flat. He said if I had a problem I could go to his work site which was like 3 houses down. Well, as I drove off we could both hear air leaking out one of my front tires. So I got to the site and he helps me change the tire and we popped the hubcap on the other tire. Mind you, even though I was going to be a little late, I got in my car thinking I could still make Chem class. Well, as I drove off I could hear the other front tire leaking air! I'll always take an excuse not to go to Chem class but this was ridiculous. So I drive very slowly all the way to Metairie to my fav, honest mechanic, Duckworth on Causeway. They hook me up, fix my tires, re-aline everything, but I notice something is missing, my hubcap! Thus begins the hubcap search. I retrace all my routes and end up not too far from the scene of the crime where I find my hubcap. Needless to say, I didn't make it to Chem class that day but I did almost die. How's that for a Thursday?

My Pet Peeves

Just some things that have been getting on my nerves that I have to release:

1) Elevator Etiquette: If you are waiting for the elevator, it is proper to let the people who are one the elevator get off before you rush on. It's easier for everyone that way, and nicer.

2) Use your blinker!: It's the law, don't just cut people off, that's how accidents happen!

3) You can turn going faster than 5 miles per hour.

4) Can someone please tell me why the LADIES restroom at UNO and Tulane are completely blue?! Evey time I walk in, I think I'm in the wrong place, the boys bathroom. Maybe I shouldn't be so sterotypical, but it is confusing and frightening.

5) You know how signs in the libraries say "Quiet please"? I think some people need an interpretation: "Silent please". It's understandbale if you have to tell someone something if you are studying together or doing whatever in a library with whoever. However, please please please don't go to the library knowing you will study as a group discussion. Go to the designated group study rooms, go to a coffee shop, or someone's house, but not the library. Even people who wisper the whole time disturb the people who are trying to silently study or read a book. Some people can't study if there's not music blarring in their ears or need some type of background noise. However, you will not find these people at the library. They go there to study and/or read in peace. I have earplugs in and I can hear people wispering. =(

Sometimes, you just have to get things off your chest.
